Viewing camera images

Your system's cameras appear in two places:

  • as tiles in the Home view and in the Cockpit (current image),
  • under Smarthome → Cameras with live view (MJPEG stream) and snapshots.

The Alarmanlagenmanager fetches the images via whatever route is possible:

  • Directly reachable panels (network address, VPN, DynDNS): the stream is passed through – a smooth live view.
  • Lupus panels reachable only via P2P (e.g. behind mobile connections): images still work – the Alarmanlagenmanager opens short P2P sessions to the camera. The frame rate is lower here since the panel allows only a few concurrent P2P sessions.
  • VESTA: camera images run via the panel's media retrieval; for purely remote systems a stored local stream address (under "Edit") is recommended, then the live view works too.

Who may see camera images

Camera images are the most sensitive part of the system – which is why they are a dedicated permission, separate from general reading:

  • The "View cameras" permission is granted by the main user per user and panel (under Access).
  • Installers manage their customers' cameras (set up, rename, delete) but do not see the images by default. Only when the operator sets the approval on the installer account does the installer see images as well. This preserves the customer's privacy without hindering support.
  • Administrator and main user (the customer themselves) always see their images, provided their account has the camera permission.

Setting up cameras

You add new cameras via the panel's web interface or – depending on the model – via pairing; ONVIF cameras can be adopted on supported panels. Afterwards you can rename and manage the cameras in the Alarmanlagenmanager.

Notes

  • Camera images are not stored on our server – they are only passed through. Recordings are stored by the panel itself (Smarthome → Recordings).
  • A missing image almost always has one of the causes from Troubleshooting: camera off, Wi-Fi change, panel unreachable.
