Rule groups and profiles (Lupus)

The concept

Lupus panels organise their automation on two levels:

• Rule groups bundle rules by topic ("Lighting", "Presence", "Heating").
• Profiles determine which groups currently apply ("Normal", "Holiday", "Party"). Exactly one profile is active.

The consequence you need to know:

A rule runs only if it is assigned to a rule group and that group is contained in the active profile. A saved but unassigned rule never fires – without any error message.

VESTA panels don't have this concept; both menu items are absent there, and saved rules apply immediately.

Practical procedure

1. Smarthome → Rule groups: create groups and assign rules.
2. Smarthome → Profiles: create a profile (or edit the existing one) and include the desired groups.
3. Activate the profile. The previously active profile is switched off by this – the interface points it out.

If you create rules via the rule editor or via AI, you are guided through this assignment where needed: missing groups and profiles can be created on the spot.

Profiles in everyday life

Profiles are more than bookkeeping – they are a switch for life situations:

• Normal: lighting and comfort rules.
• Holiday: additionally presence simulation, stricter reporting.
• Workers in the house: motion detector rules temporarily off.

Switching the profile replaces tediously deactivating many rules one by one.

Common pitfall

"I created a rule but nothing happens." – In almost all cases the assignment is missing: rule without a group, group not in the profile, or the wrong profile active. Check those three in this order; under Smarthome → Profiles you immediately see which profile is active and what it contains.
